Cleveland Search Engine Optimization Community

This past Tuesday was the Key Phrase Research Class

When you do a class in a new format there is always a bit of feeling around for the best formula.

But fortunately we had an awesome group. They were really smart and really engaged. You can’t ask for anything better than that.

Some of the testimonials were:

Great class Sage. The material was presented in an easy to comprehend fashion and your energy kept the class interesting.

Here’s another one:

Great coverage of the key phrase research topic. Nice to see another perspective on the best way to select key words for both organic and paid search. Great energy!

There we also some recommendations of having more case studies and keeping things more linear.

I agree with both.

I’m going to make a point of doing more case studies in this week’s On-site search engine optimization class

And the whole linear thing… this is something I fight with endlessly. I am not, by nature, a linear guy. But at least I attempted to follow the book this time :)

I think there is a happy middle ground between structure and going where the conversation takes us.

Thank you all!

Keep in mind that there are 5 more classes scheduled. Most of them currently have 7 people in them. 10 people is the max for each class.

But you can register for them all on this page:

We have been rolling out more and more Facebook Ad programs here at SageRock.

These campaigns are some of the most affordable and targeted advertising options we have probably ever seen.

You don’t need a presence on Facebook to take advantage of these ads. They can be sent directly to your main Web site.

We have created an introductory Facebook Ad campaign setup and management program at SageRock. Additionally, we have a promotion in April that takes $400 off the SageRock setup fee.

You can learn more about our Facebook Ad Management Service here:

Have a great day!

I’ve wanted to write this post for several days. I haven’t had the chance until now.

But I wanted to tell you why Key Phrase Research is so important.

Key phrase research is the foundation of all search engine marketing. If you get your key phrase research wrong then everything else that you do will be wrong on top of it.

There are two main ways you can go wrong with key phrase research:

  1. You can pick a phrase that you can rank well on but no one is searching for it.
  2. Or you can pick a phrase that is so highly competitive that you don’t stand a chance ranking for it at all.

I see both of these mistakes happen all the time.

In this class we’re going to be looking at a wide array of key phrase research tools and a comprehensive strategy on how to make a solid key phrase strategy.

This is an all day class and even includes lunch!

On top of that, because it is my very first class (and I didn’t give you much time to consider it) I am taking $100 off the class.

If you use the link below you will get the $100 discount automatically applied to the class:

I hope to see you there!

Sage

I put a lot on the line with this event.

I’ve been a huge fan and participant of The Web Association for
years.

Recently, we were talking and they mentioned that they would like to
try an event in Akron.

The first idea that came to mind was a social media event featuring
the Akron-Canton Airport. They are doing some world-class, cutting edge
social media tactics. I really wanted this to be the first event.

Everyone at the Web Association thought it was an awesome idea.

I then talked to Kristie VanAuken,
the airport’s  Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing &
Communications Officer about the idea. Because of her extreme
awesomeness (you’ll see what I mean) she was all about it.

But here’s where it got tricky. The Web Association was concerned
about having the event too far south. They were afraid they might not
get enough people at the event.

But it seemed like the place to have the event was right at the
airport.

I really pushed for them to try it here. They said it was a huge risk
because if we didn’t get a good turnout we might not be able to do
another Akron / Canton event.

But I knew my Akron and Canton peeps would totally come through.

And sure enough, the event is filling up fast.

But I don’t want the attendance to just be “good.” I want The Web
Association to be blown away!

So, let’s show those Clevelander’s what we’ve got. Let’s fill this
puppy up!

If you are available:

May 27, 2010
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM

Please come to this most awesome event.

You are going to learn a lot about how social media is done right.
You are going to be able to check out the very sweet CAK airport.

And you will be able to show your Akron / Canton amazingness.

PLEASE COME TO THIS EVENT!

TKG.com gets a new look!

Just a few short months after we shook things up with a new domain, we’re at it again with an all new look for our website, www.tkg.com!

Like a lot of web companies, we’re great at designing and marketing websites for our clients, oftentimes at the expense of our own site. However, there’s no denying that we have a huge online identity (we’re a web company after all), and we knew it was time for TKG to have a site that communicates the same Web marketing and design standards we preach to our clients every day.  Plus, Geoff told us to do it, which is always a big incentive!

We’ve just launched the first big phase, with lots more in store in the coming weeks including the addition of more video and other interactive elements, plus themed designs for major sections of the site.  And you can be sure that we’ll be tinkering with it long after it’s officially done.

Some features of the new tkg.com include:

Behind the scenes, the site features Apoxe (a-POX-ee), TKG’s custom Content Management System (CMS) that’s fully accessible and search engine friendly.

Check it all out at tkg.com!

After a sell-out crowd in April, TKG and our all-star lineup of Web Marketing experts are heading back to the University of Akron’s Taylor Institute for Search Engine Marketing Made Simple on Sept. 18-19.  Join us for either day or both days — it’s up to you!  Visit The Karcher Group for all the details.

Save $100 off your registration with the discount code CLESEO.

Unlike the mega-conferences with 1,000 of your closest friends, our seminars are different.  You can expect to ask questions and get answers at anytime throughout the day, take home a bunch of ideas to implement right away, learn SEO basics without breaking the bank, and leave with a to-do list for your site.

Day One topics include:

  • SEO Overview
  • Keywords/Copywriting
  • Link Building
  • Intro to HTML Optimization
  • Intro to PPC

Day Two topics include:

  • Local Search
  • Optimizing Dynamic Content
  • Usability/Accessibility in Design and SEO
  • Web 2.0/Social Media Strategies
  • Blogging for Your Business

Speakers include:  Anita Campbell, Editor – Small Business Trends; Jake Baillie, Managing Director of STN Labs and former President of TrueLocal.com; Dr. Bill McHenry, Associate Professor at U of Akron; Geoff Karcher, President of TKG, and TKG’s team of in-house SEO talent.

Don’t just take our word about our seminars.  Here are just a few testimonials:

“Excellent! Learned much more than I thought I would. Very pragmatic and real world tips and ideas that I can use now.”

“After one day I feel like I can really contribute back to our marketing department.”

“Simplified, not stupified!”
